Modest and understated, Loving's memoir is testament to the unique traits it took to rise to the top in the highly competitive and dangerous world of the fighter pilot.
Loving flew 151 missions as a combat fighter pilot, in both Spitfires and P-51s, over Italy, South France, Germany, Czechoslovakia and other occupied countries of Eastern Europe.
Shortly after the beginning of the Korean War, he volunteered for combat duty and served for 13 months, flying another 113 missions against north Korean and Communist Chinese forces.
